We tend to ask interesting and fundamental questions to self in the 40s. I believe it is a healthy and good habit, especially as it makes us realise something new and interesting about ourselves, making us more inspired to drive ourselves towards growth. Growth towards a happier self.

I found myself being inspired just thinking about blogging about these questions to self in the 40s.

When am I the happiest?

When I am laughing together with my loved ones.

When I see my loved ones being happy.

When I am feeling loved.

When I feel in control of my life.

When I am working on my growth. When I am consciously focused on my future self, the kind of person I want to be in the future. E.g., I am working on this blog every weekend, I know that I am working towards my goal, even though currently the goal seems far away.

When I realise I am actually seeing success in progress in the areas where I am working on improving e.g. when my personal financial spreadsheet show numbers where 45% of the increase in net worth is due to investments as opposed to savings from my income earned through my labour. This is a important realisation for someone that is preparing to stop a salaried job in the near future.

What am I drawn to these days?

This will change from time to time. These days, I am drawn to a specific kind of art – big, a pop of colour (not necessarily strong), something funny and cute, the kind of art that will make me smile instantly. I’ve been looking for such art pieces to put around my house, maybe one in my bedroom, maybe 2 more in my living room.

Just thinking about what you are drawn to will instanly lift your mood.

What have I learnt new this year?

That what I have in my thoughts rule the world I live in, because the thoughts determine my emotions about the situation I’m in. I could be amazingly happy and painfully sad in the exact same external circumstance.

Some other questions I can think of – What do I want to learn new in the next year? Whom around me is living the life they want?
