Work on what you love..that’s what I’m aspiring to and what I would like to inspire everyone to.

That will make you feel happy most of the time…not sometime in the future when you have this or if that happens. It has no dependency or contingency, you will be happy NOW.

After having worked in corporates for more than 20 years, rather happily and successfully, I realised one thing. I still have a desire to work on what I love. I still feel that I should try something else that is chosen by me, not what is asked of me.

I was instantly drawn to the concept of ikigai when I learned about this in 2023. Ikigai makes sense for someone that prioritizes their own happiness above everything else.

The topic continues to inspire and interest me and hence I don’t get sick of blogging about this.

1. Happy in the now

I don’t know about you but I don’t know what’s more important than keeping yourself happy in life. At whatever stage of life one is in, we should prioritize our happiness. Which means, we need to continue to think and discover what makes us happy and spend more time on that. Once you have thought enough about what you like (and are good at), then you can focus on how to start adding value in that area by finding the community that values your output. Then money will naturally follow as long as you’re providing great value.

2. Keeps you in the inspired stage

As you continue to focus on working on what you love, you will continue to be self-inspired as you will see that you keep improving and growing in that area. In that process you will inspire others and in turn keep you in the happiness state. You will naturally inspire others when they see you being so happy, working on what you love and growing.

3. Hence sustainable

Working on something you like, will inevitabily make you great in that work as you will consistently work on it, will get you more experienced and generate more value to the community that you inspire. This in turn makes your work sustainable. You wouldn’t feel like you are actually working if you are enjoying yourself on the task.

I’d love to hear your examples of working on what you love, please share!
